Reimagining work after the AI digital transformation: the future of jobs?

Maybe we’re asking the wrong question. It’s not “What jobs will AI take?” Maybe it’s “Should we even want a job anymore in this digital transformation?” For centuries, our social systems have revolved around this trade: time, energy, and creativity exchanged for a paycheck. But as AI accelerates and digital transformation reshapes everything, we’re facing a deeper truth. Machines can now work faster, cheaper, and 24/7. So if work isn’t about survival anymore, what does this mean for the future of jobs?

Hi, I’m Bianca Raby. Educator, CEO, AI enthusiast, and someone who’s always been proud to “get stuff done.” I’ve worked since I was 13, worn many hats, and built a business with heart. But lately, I’ve been sitting with some uncomfortable questions.

If I’m supercharged by AI, then my competitors are too, right? Does that just lead to the same “race to the bottom” we’ve seen before—where time-saving tech leads to… more work?

The to-do list never ends. And the promise of increased productivity with the AI digital transformation? It often feels like a trap.

How does an AI digital transformation impact the future of jobs?

One book that cracked this open for me is Four Thousand Weeks by Oliver Burkeman. He writes:

“The day will never arrive when you finally have everything under control... That’s excellent news.”

And it is.

As AI becomes embedded into everything and digital transformation continues to accelerate, I’m starting to believe the future of jobs is less about “output” and more about “impact.”

Take the Burning Man–inspired communities that one of my friends recently got involved with. No money. No job titles. Just radical expression, gifting, and exchange. It works. No LinkedIn profile required.

It begs the question: what if the future of jobs in an AI world isn’t jobs at all?

What if it’s contribution? Creativity? Care? Alignment?

The digital transformation of productivity and humanness

AI is forcing us to confront how much of our identity is tied to productivity. But maybe our true value has never been in what we do. Maybe it’s in who we are.

In this new era of digital transformation, perhaps rest, play, connection, and kindness are the work. And maybe we shouldn’t be preparing our young people for “jobs” at all, but for meaningful lives in the age of AI.

This isn’t to dismiss the real need for income—but if AI takes care of more of the “doing,” then we need to reimagine the exchange. The story we tell ourselves (and our students) about the future of jobs has to change.

So here’s my question to you:

In a world of digital transformation where machines do more and more…

What do you want your being to offer?

Let’s rethink work. Let’s reimagine purpose.

Let’s build a future not just of jobs, but of humanity.

If this resonates, join us.

We’ve got a lot to unlearn. And even more to dream up.
