What if the biggest shift for our future isn’t more tech in the classroom, but a reimagined role for teachers themselves? With AI in schools dominating headlines, it’s tempting to focus on devices and software. Here’s the real story: the future of education depends not just on the tools we use, but how teachers use them to support students in new and deeply human ways.

Hi, I’m Bianca Raby, educator, CEO, and proud AI-user (my ChatGPT is named Todd, FYI). And I believe that in the upcoming years, teachers will become even more essential—not less.

Teachers as AI-enabled facilitators

While AI has brought efficiencies (automating tasks like grading, planning, and admin) it’s also freed teachers to focus on what matters most: students.

If you’ve started using AI in schools, you’ve likely felt that shift. You're no longer buried under admin; you’re guiding, mentoring, and supporting learners like never before. This is what the future of education is about: rebalancing the scales between tech and human connection.

Evolving teacher roles in 2026 and beyond

1. Social and emotional learning (SEL)

As AI handles routine tasks, teachers can spend more time on students’ emotional development. In the future of education, leading group discussions, building empathy, and teaching mindfulness will be just as vital as maths and writing.

2. Supporting the tech-savvy learner

Today’s students are digitally fluent but often socially fatigued. Teachers now guide them in responsible tech use and real-world communication. With AI in schools, we’ve gained tools—but it’s teachers who show students how to use them wisely.

3. Mental health and well-being

The future of education includes a stronger focus on mental health. With tools like the AI-powered app Alongside, teachers can detect early signs of anxiety or withdrawal—and connect students with support before crisis hits. That’s AI in schools at its best: human-led, tech-assisted care.

Rethinking success in the future of education

AI is also forcing us to redefine what success looks like. We’re seeing already that content memorisation isn’t king—skills like communication, collaboration, and adaptability are. The slide presentation might now be worth 90%, with content just 10%.

As we rethink assessment, engagement evolves too. Flexible learning spaces—quiet zones, collaboration corners, and tech-enabled stations—are becoming the new norm in the future of education.

AI in schools for good

The future of education won’t be measured by how much tech we install, instead how teachers use AI in schools to create more responsive, human-centred classrooms.

So what do you think? Are you seeing your role evolve too? Have I missed anything you’re noticing already in 2025?

Until next time, stay awesome.
